Our Vision

PLOP residency is an artist-run residency in Central London, one of the cultural hubs of the world. At PLOP we offer ‘one month’ residencies for three artists per month to come and make work. This year, the artists will share a studio space of 35m2 located at Cob Gallery’s newly-renovated studios in Camden, London. We provide studio visits for the artists from industry professionals to help the artists in residence along the way – whether that be career advice, help writing about their work, constructive critiques or simply suggesting artists they should meet here in London.

Cob Gallery was established in 2011 and focuses their program on multi disciplinary, London based and emerging artistic talent. Continuing the original conception as an artist-led project space, the gallery maintains a culture of close collaboration and mutual support between makers and curators, offering an inclusive and nourishing platform. Oli Epp, the founder of PLOP, bought his first sculpture from Cob gallery in 2018 and maintains a close friendship with co-Director Cassie Beadle.

As co-hosts, Cob will provide brand new studio spaces and artistic support during the residency. Together, we will arrange studio visits, tutorials and external mentorship from working artists and industry professionals. There will also be an end of residency exhibition, hosted in the studios at Cob Gallery, which is an optional opportunity for artists who want to showcase their work made during the residency.

Due to the pandemic, the first three residencies will be for UK-based artists only. The fourth residency will be open to international artists, subject to Covid-19 travel restrictions.

By having three artists per month on each residency, we hope to create a supportive community in which artists make new work, engage, and enjoy all that our city has to offer.

Our ethos is to create a fun immersive residency WITHOUT an application fee. PLOP is free to enter and open to all.
